The two A400M aircraft from Dubai with the last 53 Spanish soldiers have landed in Zaragoza this Saturday. Minister Margarita Robles has come to the air base to receive the military deployed for the evacuation mission in Afghanistan.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m., the A400s landed, carrying 35 members of the 31st and 17th Wing of the Air Deployment Support Squadron (AEDA), based in the Aragonese capital.
The minister, who has greeted some of these soldiers and their families, has valued in statements to the media “the delivery” of these troops, who return with “the satisfaction of their duty fulfilled”, but the “bittersweet” feeling of not having been able to help more Afghan citizens. She has been accompanied by the Mayo Chief of Defense (Jemad), Teodoro López Calderón and the Chief of the Air Staff (Jema), Javier Salto Martínez.
Also, the Torrejón de Ardoz air base (Madrid) received on Friday, at around 7:25 p.m., the last plane with 195 people on board with evacuated Afghans and personnel who have participated in the entire operation, including diplomats, police and military. In the rescue tasks, more than 2,200 people have been evacuated, of which 1,671 are Afghan collaborators from Spain and their families.
