The United Kingdom approves a bivalent vaccine against the original COVID-19 virus and the omicron variant

The United Kingdom has become this Monday the first country to approve Moderna’s bivalent vaccine for people over 18 years of age, developed to attack the original COVID-19 virus – like the ones used right now – and the new omicron variant , as reported by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

With this decision, the vaccine is expected to be used as a booster for adults next fall, although the number of doses that are available is unknown at this time.

The health authorities had already indicated that – starting next September – a booster vaccine will be offered to those over 50 years of age and to people who are in the highest risk groups.
