The University of Barcelona remains the best in Spain, according to the Shanghai ranking

The University of Barcelona (UB) has once again ranked among the 200 best universities in the world in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Arwu), known as the Shanghai ranking, a position that the Catalan center has held since 2016. Specifically , the UB is situated in the section between positions 151 and 200, making it the Spanish academic institution that obtains the best results. Spain once again has no university in the coveted ‘top 100’ ranking.

A total of five Spanish university centers have been placed among the 300 best. In order from best to worst, this section includes the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), the University of Valencia (UV) and the University of Granada. The Shanghai ranking also places three other universities in the 301-400 segment, namely the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and the University of the Basque Country (UPV). Finally, two other Spanish companies would be among the 500 improvements: the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).

The Shanghai ranking annually analyzes some 2,000 university centers around the world and establishes an order among the first thousand. As is traditional, in this year’s update the top positions have once again fallen to American universities, with Harvard in first place, Stanford in second and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in third, the latter after of having climbed positions.
