The US condemns the ruling that enables the immediate re-election of Bukele in El Salvador



The charge d’affaires of the United States in El Salvador, Jean Manes, said this Saturday that the Government of his country condemns the decision of the Constitutional Chamber of the Salvadoran Supreme Court that enables the presidential re-election, and argued that this “decline” of democracy in the Central American country it damages the relationship between both nations.

“The Government of the United States condemns the decision taken on September 3 by the Salvadoran Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court,” Manes said at a press conference to which the local press was called.

On Friday night, the constitutional magistrates, appointed on May 1, reversed a 2014 ruling and enabled immediate presidential re-election, With which President Nayib Bukele could seek a second term in office in 2024.
