They arrest an armed young man after sneaking into the grounds of Windsor Castle

A man who entered the grounds of the castillo de Windsor, where the Queen Isabel Britain is spending Christmas, he was arrested and is arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, police said Saturday.

The 19-year-old from Southampton, southern England, did not access any buildings and security protocols were immediately activated, Thames Valley Police said in a statement.

The 95-year-old monarch, who spent much of the Covid-19 pandemic at Windsor Castle, was celebrating Christmas there with her son, the Prince carlos, his wife, Camilla, and other close family members.

“The man has been arrested on suspicion of trespassing or trespassing and possession of an offensive weapon,” said Rebecca Mears, Thames Valley Police Superintendent.

He added that the members of the Royal family they had been informed of the incident and that the police did not believe there was a greater danger to the public.

The incident took place around 8.30 GMT.

Charles, Camilla and other members of the royal family were photographed later in the morning arriving for a Christmas church service at St George’s Chapel within the Windsor Castle complex.

There was no suggestion that any of the royal family’s plans had been interrupted by the incident.

Other intruders

The security breaches in royal residences they are rare. The most serious during the queen’s reign occurred in 1982, when an intruder climbed up a wall to enter Buckingham Palace, her home in London, and entered a room where she was lying.

In 2016, a man with a prior murder conviction pleaded guilty to trespassing after scaling a perimeter wall in the Buckingham Palace and ask if the monarch was at home.

The royal family typically spends Christmas at the queen’s estate in Sandringham in eastern England, but that tradition has been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. He also spent Christmas 2020 in Windsor.

The queen did not make a public appearance on Saturday. In a christmas message Recorded to the nation, she spoke of the loss of her husband, Prince Philip, who died in April at the age of 99. The couple were married for 73 years.
