The vehicles will feature the same hybrid powertrains with turbocharged 1.6-liter engines until 2025, but will run on more sustainable fuels than current ones, as the new rules call for 5.75% biocomposites in the fuel. currently used, increase to 10%. The new rules apply the outcome of lessons learned in recent major accidents, such as the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, stating that in the event of a crash the engine must be safely separated from the chassis without exposing the fuel tank, and longer front section to help dissipate energy in a crash, and stronger chassis sides to resist T-shaped side impacts.
