The drop in temperatures has given a truce to the operation that has been working since last Wednesday on the fire in the Sierra de la Culebra (Zamora). According to the Junta de Castilla y León, it has been possible to work “continuously” and all the people evacuated have been able to return to their homes.
In addition, traffic has been restored on the N-631 and the connection with AVE to Galicia, which was suspended on Saturday in the early afternoon due to the proximity of the flames to the infrastructure in Otero de Bodas. The fire has already burned more than 25,000 hectares, which makes the fire the most serious in the entire history of Castilla y León.
At midnight this Saturday, the president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, tweeted a photo in which he said he was speaking with the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, because “coordination is key” and announced “a special economic plan that compensates for the damage to the affected areas”. Meanwhile, the citizens reproach that the fire operation was not working 100% on Wednesday, when the fire broke out, in the heat of the heat wave.
