The Minister of Culture, Miquel Iceta, wants young people to “let themselves be seduced by culture”. The leader makes a call to people who come of age in 2022 to register on the website where they can apply for the youth cultural bonus, an aid of 400 euros to bring the population closer to the sector. “Let yourselves be embraced by culture because culture will never leave you”, insisted the head of Culture at the presentation of the voucher at the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia, this Monday.
The forecasts of the ministry are that the bonus reaches almost half a million young people who turn 18 in 2022 and calls on companies to join the initiative. To date, in the first week open to bidders, nearly 3,000 companies have registered on the website of the Ministry of Culture to apply for membership, as indicated by Iceta in the presentation, although only a thousand have completed the process.
The head of Culture has wanted to value the work of the cultural sectors, especially precarious and affected during the pandemic. “It is time for society to say thank you to creators. We believe in you, we are going to defend your rights and get more and more people to get closer to culture”, Iceta pointed out.
For his part, the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, stressed that the bonus is an injection of 210 million euros for the cultural sector, a “robust industry”, which follows the maxim that “investing in culture is investing in free people.”
The bonus is a prepaid card or money card, which can be purchased in physical format or downloaded to the mobile phone and which requires a digital certificate to prove the identity of the applicant. The certificate can be obtained through the website of the Currency and Stamp Factory and makes it easier to obtain help, available until October 15. The 400 euros are divided into 200 for live shows, 100 for physical consumption and 100 for digital consumption, provided that the companies have their fiscal headquarters in Spain.
