TikTok increases (by a lot) the maximum duration of its videos | Digital Trends Spanish

TikTok has increased the maximum length of its videos to 10 minutes, so users using the Android and iPhone apps will be able to create and upload much longer videos.

Although the new limit has not been officially announced by TikTok (at the time of writing this note there was no statement on the platform blog), several users confirmed the increase in the duration of the clips.

“Confirmed: TikTok enables longer videos of up to 10 minutes for all its users globally,” said Matt Navarra, social media consultant.

TikTok has made several adjustments to the maximum length of videos that can be posted on the social network, which initially limited them to 60 seconds. In July 2021, the app extended that limit to three minutes. At the time, the social network said the increase was intended to give content creators more flexibility for their creations.

While the new cap will maintain that intent, it can also be seen as an initiative to allow the platform to resemble YouTube in order to continue stealing viewing time from Alphabet’s video network.

In recent years, both platforms have engaged in a “war” to keep the attention of younger users. And in that battle, TikTok is ahead, at least when it comes to users in the United States and the United Kingdom.

According mid-2021 data from analytics firm App Annie, US users spend about 24 hours a month watching videos on TikTok; for YouTube, that figure was 22 hours.

In the United Kingdom, and according to data from the same firm, the trend in favor of TikTok is more marked: 26 hours a month vs. 16 on YouTube.
