Tokyo on alert for first infections in the Olympic Village | Digital Trends Spanish

The pandemic has been a constant concern since the Tokyo Olympics were confirmed this year. Many even called for the competition, originally scheduled for 2020, to be suspended due to the high number of infected in the Japanese capital.

In fact, the city is under its fourth state of health emergency that will culminate precisely one day before the Olympics begin, on July 22.

This concern has become more latent in recent days, when the event did not even start, as a result of the first cases of athletes infected in the Olympic Village.

Thus, on Sunday, July 18, the Organizing Committee confirmed the first two athletes infected by COVID-19. So far, their names or nationality have not been revealed, although it is known that they were staying at the Olympic Village, a place that will host more than eleven thousand athletes during the competition.

For its part, this Monday, the Czech Olympic Committee (COV) confirmed that one of its athletes also tested positive for COVID-19. This is Ondrej Perusic, a beach volleyball player, who tested positive during the daily tests carried out in the village.

“He has absolutely no symptoms. We look at everything in detail, and in particular we pay attention to the anti-transmission measures in the equipment, “added the agency.

According to the organizers of the Olympic Games, 58 positive cases have been registered since July 1, out of a total of 20 thousand people who will participate (athletes, coaches, leaders and journalists, among others).

Last weekend, meanwhile, the first infected were announced in the Olympic Village.
