Trump says he’s ‘very likely’ to run in 2024

Former US President Donald Trump (2017-2020) said on Thursday that he would “very likely” run as a candidate in the 2024 presidential election. As reported by The New York Times Citing sources close to him, Trump is expected to formally announce his candidacy shortly after next Tuesday’s midterm elections, possibly on November 14.

At a campaign event in Sioux City, Iowa, Trump told supporters to “get ready” for a possible run for a second term.

“To make our country successful and safe and glorious, I will very, very, very likely do it again,” Trump said at a rally in support of Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley.

Trump told people attending the event that he got “a lot more votes in 2020,” in the election he lost to President Joe Biden, than he did in 2016, when he won the presidency.

It is not the first time that Trump has spoken about the possibility of running again as a candidate in 2024, but it is the strongest indication. At other midterm election campaign events he had indicated that he “maybe” run as a candidate.

The Republican politician currently has several judicial investigations against him, including one for allegedly keeping classified documents in his residence in Florida and another for fraud in New York.

In addition to this, Congress issued a subpoena to call him to testify in an investigation into the assault on the Capitol and to turn over a series of documents. Trump has until this Friday to deliver the information, as well as a deadline of the 14th of this month to declare in Washington.
