The Civil Guard has detained two men in Formentera as alleged perpetrators of a sexual assault against a 19-year-old girl, in which a third assailant also participated.
Those arrested, two men of Moroccan nationality aged 32 and 37, have been transferred to Ibiza and on Monday they will be brought to justice, as the Civil Guard has informed Europa Press.
The events took place on the island at the end of July, although the victim filed the complaint a week later, at which point the investigation began.
The Consell de Formentera, in a statement, has “deeply” regretted the events and has “strongly” rejected the attack. The institution has stressed that neither these crimes, nor any aggression against women, “can have a place in a modern and egalitarian society.”
The institution thanked the Civil Guard for its work, recalling that there is a third alleged perpetrator – also Moroccan – who is outside the island and is already in search and capture.
The Consell has expressed its support for the victim and has highlighted his courage since, by denouncing, he has allowed two of the alleged aggressors to be arrested.
“We hope that the Justice will act quickly in the face of this serious fact,” said the Consell, which has ensured that it will take the necessary actions to continue raising awareness about violence against women.
