Two women die in the fire of an apartment in Vilassar de Mar (Barcelona)

Two elderly women died this Monday in the fire in the apartment where they lived in Vilassar de Mar (Barcelona). As reported by the Fire Brigade of the Generalitat, the fire started around 6:45 a.m. in a house on Maria Vila Street, 219, in Vilassar, and has forced a quarantine of residents to evacuate preventively.

Sixteen crews of the Firefighters have traveled to the scene of the event and upon arrival they have verified that the fire was fully developed and that it basically affected the seventh floor of the building, ground floor plus ten floors.

Although the flames had also spread through some awnings on the façade, it was possible to control it at around 09:19 am. Upon accessing the interior of the affected house, firefighters have located the lifeless bodies of two elderly women.

Six teams from the Mossos d’Esquadra and six units from the Emergency Medical System (SEM) have also traveled there, among other security forces.

Ten teams from the Generalitat Firefighters, on the other hand, are working to extinguish the fire that has affected various vehicles inside a car park on Calle Francesc Llunell, 11, in Esplugues de Llobregat (Barcelona), which has not produced no personal harm.

In this case, the fire, which has been unleashed for causes that are being investigated around four in the morning, has burned several vehicles that were parked in various of the underground floors of the car park and has also affected various furniture on the interior terraces.

The Mossos d’Esquadra have worked in this service with six units, while the SEM has assigned four.
