United Arab Emirates creates clouds to curb drought | Digital Trends Spanish

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) faces a serious drought problem, for which they have had to resort to unusual, almost desperate measures.

The idea is to get the necessary rainfall for agriculture and other essential activities. For this, the nation had to resort to drones to generate rain artificially.

The goal is for the electrical impulse to help group the water droplets and other particles together to create new and larger clouds that have a chance to generate the necessary precipitation.

“What we’re trying to do is make the droplets inside the clouds big enough that when they fall from the cloud, they survive to the surface,” Keri Nicoll, a meteorologist at the University of Reading, told CNN.

It may seem like an extreme measure, but the UAE has suffered an intense heat wave in recent days. In fact, on several occasions the temperature has exceeded 50 degrees Celsius. At the same time, winds of up to 40 km / h have been recorded, causing dust and sand to rise.

The method proved effective as, in addition to Dubai, several cities such as Abu Dhabi and Sharjan also experienced heavy rains.
