Ted Kaczynski, the American terrorist known as the Unabomber, has been found dead in his cell in North Carolina. Kaczynski was 81 years old and was serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to murder in 1998.
Kaczynski remained in a maximum security prison but had been transferred to a medical unit nearly two years ago due to health problems.
The terrorist, one of the best known in the US, remained on the run for almost 20 years until he was arrested. He was sentenced for the death of three people and for leaving more than twenty injured by the 16 letter bombs that he sent between 1978 and 1995.
Just before being identified, Kaczynski sent a manuscript to the US media in which he threatened to continue sending bomb letters if they did not publish the text. He had also threatened to carry out attacks on planes. The New York Times and The Washington Post they agreed, according to ABC News, while being advised by the FBI and the US Attorney General.
Kaczynski had studied at Harvard at the age of 16 and earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Michigan.
