Vote here for the first Governing Committee of elDiario.es

The final voting process for the first Governing Committee of elDiario.es is already underway. All members of the newspaper can endorse this newly created body for 13 days: from this Wednesday, November 30 at 9:30 a.m. (Spanish peninsular time) to Monday, December 12 at 8:00 p.m. (Spanish peninsular time). To do this, just follow the instructions at the end of this text. The function of the Governing Committee is to supervise the elaboration of the Statute of elDiario.es and ensure its compliance.

The Statute is a binding document that includes the rights and obligations of our journalists and, also, the rights of our partners. Thus, elDiario.es becomes the first newspaper that recognizes the community that supports it with rights that go beyond those of a reader or subscriber.

As provided for in the Statute itself –whose draft can be consulted at this link–, the Governing Committee has three ex officio members. In this case they are Ignacio Escolar, as director; José Sanclemente, as president of the company; and Rosalía Lloret, as CEO of elDiario.es.

To these three members are added the names of people of recognized prestige and journalists from elDiario.es. They are Pilar del Río, Isaac Rosa, Olga Rodríguez, Javier Pérez Royo, Neus Tomàs, Juanlu Sánchez and Natalia Chientaroli. The members of the Governing Committee were already endorsed by the newspaper’s staff on October 20 with a support of 79%.

A journalist from the staff of the newspaper proposed and voted for by the editorial staff will also form part of the Steering Committee. In this case, it is Jaime Sevilla, section manager at elDiario.es and responsible for closing the daily edition. Seville was appointed as a member of this body by the editorial staff of elDiario.es on November 22 after an internal vote. As secretary of the Governing Committee, without the right to vote, will be the lawyer Begoña Pernas.

And if you are not yet a member, and you also want to participate, you can sign up here. And be part of something historic: the first citizen process to build a truly free and democratic newspaper.
