We tested two models of massage guns: Hypervolt Go and Theragun Mini

In an article from the beginning of February, we explained what crop massage guns are, as well as their benefits and risks. In essence, it is a new type of massager, in this case wireless, that works with a battery and that is applied to the muscles through a striker on the front.

Its visual appearance is that of a gun, or a drill, which has a kind of rubber plastic plug at the tip that strikes repeatedly at different speeds on our muscle.

The objective is to achieve a type of repetitive massage that reaches the interior of the muscle, generally a little more than a cm inward, so that it can massage the deepest parts, undo contractures and increase circulation in the area.

These types of pistols are used above all after doing intensive sports but also before exercise, as a way of warming up muscles and tendons. They are very popular in the United States and are also present in our gyms. However, more and more people who practice sports have one at home and apply it to improve recovery as well as warm-up before exercise.

At ConsumptionClaro we have decided on the two simplest, most portable and most affordable massage guns. Specifically, they are the Hypervolt GO and the Theragun Mini. Next, we tell you its main characteristics with its pros and cons.

Hypervolt GO

It looks like an inverted drill/gun, since the handle is elongated and the barrel is short, something that is appreciated when applying a massage to hard-to-reach points on the back, buttocks or the back of the legs, since allows a better reach of the area and easy handling without having to strain the arm.

It weighs about 680 grams but it is not perceived as excessively heavy, probably because it has a good grip. In addition, in the area of the handle it has a non-slip rubber surface that further ensures the device’s grip. The rest of the gun is made of black plastic that is pleasant to the touch.

It is activated with a button on the front face of the handle, just below the barrel branch, and for each press of said button, which goes a little hard, perhaps to prevent the simple wad from being activated, it switches to a new percussion speed up to a total of three speeds.

The first press is to turn on the device, which is indicated by a green light band at the bottom of the handle. The second activates the first speed, the third the second, the fourth the third speed. and the fifth press serves to turn off the device.

As for strikers, this model has two: one in the form of a flat hammer, ideal for massaging large muscles and in a general way, and another in the form of a bullet for more specific muscles and also to undo nodules and contractures.

As for charging, it is done by cable and the plug has different pins, because we travel to other countries. The battery, once charged, theoretically offers up to 2.5 hours of duration, although in our test of use at medium speed it died out shortly before two hours, which is nevertheless a good measure.

In short: a light, silent and easy-to-handle device, although somewhat complicated to turn it on and off and also with a spatial structure that makes it somewhat complicated to transport.

Theragun Mini

Its shape is not that of a gun, but that of a kind of flat pear made of an elegant and easy-to-grip black plastic material. Despite weighing close to a kilo, it feels easy to transport because its volume is very well thought out to fit in bags, briefcases and suitcases. In fact, the product incorporates. a padded neoprene bag to carry the travel gun.

Despite its ease of handling and fastening, its shape complicates the scope and effectiveness of application in remote areas of the back, where it is difficult to reach, forcing the arm, and the pressure on the muscle is not done with. efficiency. This is undoubtedly its main disadvantage.

In terms of percussors, it has only one in the form of a foamed rubber ball that is very effective and sufficient for the massage to be successful. When it comes to power-up, it’s easier than on the Hypervolt GO and also features progressive pulses to increase speed and eventually turn off the computer.

With a long press, as in the previous model, the device can be turned off directly, but in this case the button is much less hard than in the previous model. As far as execution is concerned, it is silent, as much as in the previous model.

Charging is also done through a cable and the plug has different pins, because we travel to other countries. The battery, as with the other model, despite the fact that the manufacturer indicates 2.5 hours of autonomy, has not reached two hours.

In short: a portable and easy gun. handling, with comfortable start and stop and a silent and efficient hammer. It loses, however, in reaching difficult areas.

With which of the two do I stay?

Actually, either one can work for you if you want to give yourself warm-up or recovery massages before and after intense exercise. The difference is that the first model is more comfortable for difficult areas of the back and the back of the body.

While the second is much more suitable to take on a trip or in our different sports outings, in which we want, also outdoors or away from home, to apply the massage.

  • Yes, if your idea is to only use the pistol at home, the Hypervolt Go seems like a better model.
  • But if you are going to go out to play sports in other areas or other countries or regions, Theragun Mini is your model.
