WHO asks Ukraine to destroy potentially dangerous pathogens | Digital Trends Spanish

Any high-risk pathogens stored in public laboratories must be destroyed by the Ukrainian authorities. This was suggested by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the face of the danger posed by the invasion of Russia.

Applying this safety protocol, the “strong” recommendation aims to prevent the “accidental or deliberate” release of microorganisms potentially harmful to the health of the population, flora or fauna.

The call comes shortly after the United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, declared herself “quite” worried about a possible accident. In an appearance before the Senate, she admitted that Russian troops could search the labs for potentially dangerous samples.

The official asserted that «Ukraine has biological research facilities», so the White House «works with the Ukrainians to prevent any of these research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces, in case they manage to get close».
