Actor Noah Schanpp, who plays Will in stranger thingsconfessed to Variety something that was an unofficial truth, that her character is gay and that she is in love with Mike.
“Obviously it was hinted at in season 1: He was always there but you never really knew it, is it just him growing up slower than his friends?” Schnapp tells Variety. “Now that she’s gotten older, they made it a very real and obvious thing. Now it’s 100 percent clear that she’s gay and that she loves Mike. But before, it was a slow bow.
In fact, Mike seemed to have it pretty clear too, after at one point in season four he tells Will, “It’s not my fault you don’t like girls!”
Schanpp delved into the plot of Will and his homosexuality.
“I think it’s done so well, because it’s so easy to make a character like suddenly gay,” Schnapp told Variety. “People have approached me, I was in Paris and this 40-year-old man came up to me and said, ‘Wow, this Will character made me feel so good. And I related a lot to that. That is exactly what he was when he was a child ». That made me very happy to hear. They’re writing this real character and this real journey and the real fight and they’re doing really well.”
