You can now unlock the iPhone with the mask on | Digital Trends Spanish

We can finally unlock the iPhone with the mask and without having an Apple Watch.

The beta version of iOS 15.4 offers an update for Face ID with which it will be able to recognize the user only with the identifying features of the forehead and eyes. This is great news, as the mask has become part of our lives since the pandemic began and it seems that it will be around for a while longer.

The new function has been discovered by the youtuber Brandon Butch, who shared an image of it on Twitter. In the capture you can read Apple’s explanation of this long-awaited function: “Face ID is more accurate when it is configured only for full face recognition. To use Face ID while wearing a mask, iPhone can recognize the unique features around the eye.”

To configure this new function, we must access the iPhone configuration settings and within the ‘Face ID and code’ section, access ‘Use Face ID with a mask’. At that point, the phone will ask us to put on the mask so that it can read our face with it on.

Unfortunately this new feature will only be available on iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, so not even iPhone X and Xs will support this new identification even if they have FaceID.

Models not eligible to use this new feature can still use the fix released by Apple in April of last year. This solution arrived with iOS 14.5 and requires that we have an Apple Watch updated to the latest version of the operating system.
