Youtube just shut down and ban channel pornhub on the platform, mainly for violation of behavior guidelines, action that Instagram had already taken at the time.
According to YouTube, Pornhub violated the platform’s policy against linking to external websites that host content that is not allowed on YouTube. “Upon review, we terminated the Pornhub Official channel following multiple violations of our Community Guidelines,” YouTube spokesman Jack Malon said in a statement to Variety. “We enforce our policies equally for everyone, and channels that repeatedly violate or engage in infringing content are terminated.”
Prior to its removal on Friday, the official Pornhub channel had amassed nearly 900,000 subscribers. It was first released in December 2014. The channel URL now returns a 404 (“not found”) error on the web.
“Pornhub upholds the best trust and security measures on the Internet and takes special care to ensure that it does not violate any of the YouTube Community Guidelines,” the company said in a statement. Unfortunately, this is just the latest example of discrimination against those in the adult industry, a trend seen on social media and in all other facets of life, especially when groups falsely combine consensual adult content with exploitation”.
The MindGeek statement continued: “Artists and sex workers are marginalized groups who rely on social media to interact with fans, earn money, and support themselves and their families. YouTube’s random and arbitrary enforcement of its policies against Pornhub and those involved with the adult industry is dangerous and harmful, and we demand that social media companies treat us the same way they treat everyone else.”
